Where can I buy truly raw almonds?

Modified on Thu, 3 Jul, 2025 at 3:49 PM

United States organic and conventional almonds are required to be pasteurized by law. This means that even almonds that are labeled "raw" are not truly raw.

Organic almonds are a bit better in that they are flash pasteurized with hot steam for a short duration, and many of these almonds are shown to still be viable enough to sprout!

Still, if you really want to find truly raw organic almonds, here are 3 ways:

1) Get truly raw organic almonds directly from the farm (in other words, no shipping). Organic Pastures offers this and Azure Standard offers to "deliver" (rather than ship) to you:

2) Get truly raw organic almonds from another country. A search on amazon yields some choices: http://amzn.to/1UpxxSW

3) Get truly raw organic almonds from a food co-op that sources almonds from #1 or #2 above.

We hope this helps!
